The "Pentagon" is a pentagonal pyramid chisel drill that suppresses the movement of the cutting edge and improves damage resistance. We would like to introduce a case study on the evaluation of horizontal machining centers (M/C) regarding the positional accuracy of long drill holes using our product "Pentagon." The workpiece is S50C, and the equipment used is a horizontal M/C HSK63. The cutting conditions are as follows: pilot drill at Vc 50 m/min, f 0.15 mm/rev, with a machining depth of 9 mm (internal water-soluble 2 MPa), and long drill at Vc 80 m/min, f 0.2 mm/rev, with a machining depth of 90 mm through (internal water-soluble 2 MPa). We would like to introduce a case study on the evaluation of hole position accuracy using "Pentagon," which we handle, in vertical machining center (M/C) aluminum evaluation. The workpiece is ADC12, and the equipment is a vertical M/C BBT30, with cutting conditions of Vc 120 m/min, f 0.3 mm/rev (internal water-soluble 1 MPa), and 17 mm through (no leading). The "Pentagon" we handle is a drill that offers high hole position accuracy and excellent damage resistance even when used with high-hardness materials. While the tip angle of a typical chisel edge is about 140 degrees, the tip angle of the Pentagon's pentagonal pyramid chisel is about 170 degrees, making it closer to a flat surface. This results in a shorter tip length, which improves engagement with the workpiece!
