About Cypress Sunadaya Cypress Sunadaya Co., Ltd. (Komatsu Town, Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture, Representative Director: Kazuyuki Sunada) established the "Toyo Industrial Park Factory" (Hojyo, Saijo City) in 2018. The new factory has a vast site area of approximately 22,000 tsubo. It integrates new buildings for a lumber mill, a laminated wood factory, a CLT factory, wood drying equipment, and a product warehouse, enabling a consistent manufacturing process from logs to final products.

Business Activities
The Toyo Industrial Park starts with log sawing and proceeds to semi-finished product drying (AD and KD), final processing of sawn timber (KD structural materials, KD laminates, fence materials for the U.S., domestic 2x4 lumber, etc.), small to medium cross-section structural laminated timber using structural laminated timber equipment, and further CLT manufacturing using mass production equipment, all in a consistent system. Various machines are equipped with the latest European technology. The sawing machinery is from the German company Link, which is currently said to be the most productive sawing machine in the world, efficiently processing logs in the most effective manner and enabling mass production with minimal labor. Our sawmill can process 5,000 hinoki logs per day with a total of 10 personnel, including 2 operators. The log sawing capacity primarily focuses on hinoki, consuming 180,000 m³ of domestic logs annually, with a sawn timber production volume of 90,000 m³ per year, mainly from domestic materials.

Key Partners | Cypress Sunadaya Co., Ltd. was founded in the first year of the Genroku era when the first generation, Yozaemon Sunadaya, operated a salt field business under the name "Sunadaya," which was the main industry in the local area. At that time, they also engaged in the manufacturing and sale of salt field tools, specifically the "shio-kua" (salt hoe), and their handling of the material "sakura wood" led to the opening of a path to becoming a lumber merchant.
In 1892, the founder, Yoji Sunada, established "Sunadaya Lumber Store" as a full-fledged lumber merchant. Afterward, it transitioned to "Sunadaya Sangyo Co., Ltd." and is now known as "Cypress Sunadaya Co., Ltd." The company manufactures structural lumber, structural laminated timber, and CLT (Cross Laminated Timber).
"CYPRESS" is also the English name for the Japanese "hinoki." Our company has focused on hinoki, a resource abundant in the local area, and has increased its handling of hinoki in recent years. Today, we have grown to become one of the largest producers of hinoki lumber and laminated timber. We aim to promote the processing of domestic timber and establish a virtuous cycle of forest resources and a high-environmental business through the spread of new building materials like CLT.
Hinoki, our main raw material, is an exceptionally superior wood that Japan takes pride in. It has high strength, durability, water resistance, and insect resistance, is easy to process, emits a unique fragrance favored by the Japanese, and possesses antibacterial properties, making it a very useful wood for various applications, including construction materials.
As a construction material, hinoki has long been recognized as a high-quality building material, and it has been used in the construction of palaces and shrines since ancient times. Notable examples include the pagodas of Horyu-ji and Yakushi-ji, with the structural materials of Horyu-ji having supported the building for over 1,300 years since its construction.
Our company processes hinoki into structural laminated timber and sells it nationwide, boasting one of the largest production volumes in the country as a manufacturer of hinoki structural laminated timber. The fusion of the excellent domestic material hinoki, passed down through generations, and the modern technology of laminated timber enables us to provide more stable quality hinoki products.
In 2018, we opened a new factory, the "Toyo Industrial Park Factory." On a site of approximately 22,000 tsubo, we established a lumber mill building, a laminated timber factory building, a CLT factory building, drying equipment, and product warehouses, introducing the latest machinery and equipment, including European machines. A key feature is our ability to conduct integrated production from logs to final products. We process 5,000 logs per day, producing 90,000 m³ of products annually from a raw material scale of 200,000 m³ of logs.
Since July 2018, we have been manufacturing CLT that complies with JAS standards. CLT has various applications, including as structural materials for "CLT panel construction," shear walls for wooden frame construction, combined use with reinforced concrete construction, and as finishing materials for ceilings and floors. It is a new building material that can be used in mid- to high-rise buildings and large-scale structures where wood has not been widely used before. It is now being used in apartments, commercial facilities, schools, and public facilities.
CLT is expected to be a wood-based building material with excellent performance and workability, creating new demand for wood, and the government is promoting its use. Our company leverages the cost advantages of integrated production at a single factory and the ability to respond to manufacturing according to design, working to expand applications and demand. Through the promotion of high-quality CLT, we aim to broaden the possibilities of wooden construction, promote the use of domestic timber, and contribute to the virtuous cycle of forest resources. Wood and building material sales companies, precut businesses, general contractors, construction companies, builders, architectural design offices, etc. across the country. |
