Evaluation Case of Microplastics: Sewage System

Conducting an investigation into the actual situation of microplastics! We present a case study that shows a removal rate of 99.9% at the purification center.

Evaluation methods for microplastics in the environment include the "Guidelines for Monitoring Drifting Microplastics" and the "Guidelines for Investigating River Microplastics" published by the Ministry of the Environment. In our company, in addition to the aforementioned literature, we referred to research presentations from the Japan Sewage Works Association and collaborated with the "Aichi Water and Green Public Corporation" to examine investigation methods for microplastics in sewage systems. As a result of conducting a survey on the actual situation of microplastics, we found that the removal rate at purification centers is 99.9%. Case Study of Qualitative Evaluation of Foreign Substances: Living Environment

White foreign substances occasionally seen on the floors of newly built houses! Introducing a qualitative assessment case that suggests they may originate from human skin.

Regarding the white foreign substances occasionally observed on the floors of newly constructed houses, a qualitative assessment was conducted to determine whether they originated from building materials. Preliminary analysis of the white foreign substances using SEM-EDX revealed that carbon was the main component, which allowed for qualitative evaluation using a Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer capable of assessing functional groups of organic compounds. The Tokai Technology Center, a general incorporated foundation, conducts "performance evaluation tests for automotive interior materials" and "chemical substance emission tests from office equipment such as printers." Among automotive interior materials, we measure substances that are considered to cause irritation to the nose and throat, such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and toluene, through "VOC tests," as well as various other tests including "odor tests," "haze tests," and "flammability tests." The "Differential Thermal Balance - Mass Analysis Device (TG-MS)" allows us to understand the weight changes associated with sample heating, measure differential thermal properties, and simultaneously identify the gas components released from the sample. At the Tokai Technical Center, we conduct "analysis of harmful substances in paint films." When stripping paint, we carry out "content analysis" to assess the impact on the health of workers and to prevent the dispersion of harmful substances into the surrounding environment. We also perform "PCB analysis" and "leaching analysis" to confirm whether the discarded paint film is contaminated with PCBs or classified as special controlled industrial waste.
