In this project, we created intricate CG models using point cloud data obtained from drone footage captured on-site, leveraging Unreal Engine. The point cloud data acquired through aerial photography captures the castle's main keep, stone walls, and surrounding landscapes with millimeter precision, accurately reproducing actual dimensions and shapes in the CG environment. By utilizing Unreal Engine's real-time rendering capabilities, we faithfully reconstructed light, shadow, and texture expressions, enabling a variety of dynamic presentations, including changes between day and night and the four seasons. Furthermore, the produced CG video can also be developed as VR content. The presentation allows for experiences that are difficult to achieve with regular video, such as "perspectives from the inside" and a "historical exploration mood," which are envisioned for a wide range of applications, including tourism promotion and educational events. This video production symbolizes the fusion of cultural heritage preservation and cutting-edge technology. It aims to connect the value of Himeji Castle to future generations and contribute to the dissemination of its new charm. As a work that demonstrates the potential of CG and VR in future historical tourism, we confidently recommend it.
