The company founded by British trader Albert Richard Brown (A.R. Brown) in Yokohama is its origin. A.R. Brown brought the training ship "Meiji Maru," which is currently displayed at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, from Britain during the Meiji era and participated in the establishment of the predecessor of the university, the Merchant Marine University, helping to build the Japanese Navy. He also worked hard to promote lighthouses in Japan and served as the first manager of Nippon Yusen. A.R. Brown was also the first to sell a television to the Emperor. After going through history, it has now become a purely domestic company, but it has developed into a scientific and technological trading company that carries on A.R.
