"Spray drying" is a technology that instantly dries a liquid by spraying it in a drying chamber to create fine droplets, utilizing the surface tension of water to produce spherical, flowable granules. We have now begun tests for spray drying and fine particle granule production using a two-fluid nozzle. The two-fluid nozzle creates fine mist-like droplets by simultaneously spraying compressed air and the liquid to be dried. Like other spraying methods such as disk and pressurized nozzles, it can produce spherical dried granules. Based on the feedback from the lab equipment, we have introduced a two-fluid nozzle for medium-scale machines to produce granulated powder with an average particle diameter of 5 to 20 μm in March 2024. Since the introduction of the two-fluid nozzle spraying mechanism for fine particle production testing in December 2022, we have received positive feedback from customers over the past year, and considering the requests for scale-up based on those results, we have also implemented the two-fluid nozzle spraying mechanism for medium-scale machines (Okawara OC-16 model). The installation was completed in March 2024, and after trial runs and internal testing, we plan to begin operations around May 2024. There is a strong demand for fine particles, but the places capable of conducting granulation tests and pilot production using spray dryers are extremely limited.
