Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has introduced the radiation cooling material SPACECOOL roof shade at its Thailand facility, aiming to achieve a carbon-neutral society through reduced air conditioning energy consumption.

SPACECOOL Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce the introduction of the SPACECOOL roof shade on the factory roof of Honda Engineering Asian Co., Ltd., an overseas base of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. in Thailand, with the aim of confirming the effects of reducing air conditioning energy and improving the labor environment.
Honda has been promoting the domestic introduction of the radiative cooling material "SPACECOOL," and has experienced its cooling effects, such as reducing internal temperatures by approximately 15°C in the corridor between buildings at the Kiryū factory and reducing air conditioning energy consumption in container houses by about 46%.
Thailand is said to have a high amount of solar radiation throughout the year, with an average solar radiation level more than 1.5 times that of Japan, resulting in significant air conditioning energy consumption in buildings. Therefore, at the EGAS factory in Thailand, where heat-related issues are more severe than in Japan, the decision was made to introduce the "SPACECOOL roof shade" based on the judgment that this material is effective in reducing air conditioning energy and improving the working environment for employees compared to conventional heat mitigation technologies.
Based on this achievement, our company will strive to expand the adoption of this material as a decarbonization solution to local companies in Thailand and Japanese companies with a presence in Thailand.
