The "Palace Tsurumi" condominium in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, was completed in January 1972 and consists of 32 units in a five-story building. As a measure against pipe deterioration for the first time in its 39 years, the NMR Pipe Protector was introduced. Initially, the management association borrowed from a public financial institution to cover the building's repair costs, making it physically difficult to undertake pipe replacement. ◆It is also adopted at the famous Buckingham Palace in the UK. On January 12, 2007, in one of the six pump rooms located within Buckingham Palace, only the pump room supplying Her Majesty's room was equipped with NMR pipe protectors for the air-conditioned hot water piping and the hot water supply piping. Before the installation of the NMR pipe protector, the iron ion concentration was high at 16.6 mg/l, resulting in a reddish-brown color, with a large amount of red rust occurring in the piping. Subsequently, 24 days after the installation of the NMR pipe protector, the iron concentration decreased to 0.455 mg/l. ◆Case Study of the Introduction of the NMR Pipe Protector at "Ibaraki Iseikai Hospital" in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture Image left: Water inside the piping before the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector Image right: Water inside the piping three weeks after the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector At that time, "Ibaraki Iseikai Hospital" in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture, was 19 years old, and the red rust deterioration in the air conditioning chilled and hot water piping made of galvanized steel pipes (SGP) was very advanced. Before the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector, water was sampled from the chilled and hot water (return) drain of the chilled water generator No. 1, and the color of the water was brownish and cloudy. Additionally, the iron ion concentration in the sampled water was found to be 5.1 mg/l, indicating that the red rust corrosion inside the piping was very advanced. However, after three weeks of installing the NMR Pipe Protector, when sampling was conducted under the same conditions, the color of the water became transparent. The iron ion concentration also dropped to below the detection limit of 0.03 mg/l. *No replacement of chilled and hot water during the effectiveness confirmation period. It was demonstrated that just three weeks after the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector, the progression of red rust was completely halted, and the surface red rust inside the chilled and hot water piping, as well as the red rust in the water, transformed into inert black rust that does not dissolve in water, thereby completely preventing the deterioration of red rust in the chilled and hot water piping.

◆Case Study of Implementation at a Major Automobile Manufacturer's Factory in Fukuoka Prefecture Left image: Red rust inside the piping before the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector Right image: Nine months after the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector, red rust has transformed into black rust In August 1998, an NMR Pipe Protector was installed in the cooling water piping of the cooling line for body welding robots at a major automobile manufacturer's factory in Fukuoka Prefecture to prevent red rust scale. Before the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector, the internal blockage of the cooling water piping was progressing due to red rust. The red rust from the main zinc-coated steel pipe would frequently clog the thin cooling tubes of the body welding robots, causing a halt in one robot to stop all robots on that line, taking more than 15 minutes to recover. The damage amounted to over 6 million yen each time. Nine months after the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector, the red rust inside the cooling water piping had turned into black rust, eliminating the outflow of red rust and significantly improving the blockage. Line stoppages became almost nonexistent, and the productivity of the cooling tubes for the welding robots increased. Additionally, maintenance such as cleaning the piping and replacing pipes was reduced, lowering costs. There was also no need to use rust inhibitors inside the piping, resulting in reduced running costs.

◆Mechanism of NMR Pipe Protector First, the formation of red rust inside pipes due to aging is caused by the oxidation of iron in the pipes by the oxygen and water contained in the water. At this time, the iron is in a state where it has lost electrons to the oxygen. In other words, if we give electrons back to the iron, the oxidation of the iron stops. The NMR Pipe Protector reduces red rust to black rust by supplying electrons known as hydrated electrons to the red rust. The hydrated electrons used by the NMR Pipe Protector to reduce red rust to black rust are contained within the water molecules of typical tap water. Water is a collection of multiple water molecules. This collection is referred to as water aggregation, and within this aggregation, multiple hydrated electrons are hidden. To utilize the hydrated electrons inside the water aggregation, the NMR Pipe Protector generates a specific electromagnetic wave. When this specific electromagnetic wave is applied to the water molecules, the electron nuclei of the water molecules, which are polarized like a magnet with N and S poles, undergo resonance vibrations and rotational motion. This phenomenon is called nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Through this nuclear magnetic resonance and the flow of water inside the pipes, the hydrated electrons inside the water aggregation can be released through discharge.
