The grapple for wood is used as an attachment for hydraulic excavators. It operates using hydraulic power sourced from the hydraulic oil pump of the excavator. There are two methods for sourcing the oil: single-line piping and four-line piping. In single-line piping, an electromagnetic valve is placed inside the wood grapple, which distributes the oil flow to two actuators—one for rotating (motor) right and left, and the other for opening and closing the claws (cylinder). The operation method can be controlled via a dedicated grip (electric) installed inside the hydraulic excavator using a switch. In four-line piping, four oil sources are taken from the hydraulic excavator, sending oil to each of the two actuators. The operation method is more complicated compared to the built-in electromagnetic valve, and operation using a dedicated grip (electric) is not possible. There are two types: "suspension type," which is suspended by one pin, and "tilt type," which is fixed by two pins. It is compatible with the new JIS standard for excavator buckets, ranging from 0.08 to 0.45 m³.
