We achieved a flatness of 1 micron by thermal spraying alumina-based ceramics onto a standard granite surface plate and precision grinding and lapping the surface. This surface plate also boasts five times the wear resistance compared to conventional granite surface plates. It is possible to either manufacture a new "i Flat" or convert your existing granite surface plate into an "i Flat" by thermal spraying ceramics onto it.
