basic information
**Lecture 1: Purpose of the Presentation** In the past few decades, global warming has rapidly progressed, and in Japan, extreme heat and abnormal weather events occur almost every year. One of the main causes is said to be the increase in CO2 emissions from automobiles. It has been established that reducing the weight of vehicles can significantly decrease CO2 emissions, and there is an increasing demand for innovative advancements in lightweight technology. This course will provide a clear explanation of CFRP, a resin material that is currently generating the most expectations, while learning the fundamentals of automotive body structure design, trends in automotive adoption, molding and processing technologies, and technical challenges. **Lecture 2: Purpose of the Presentation** For the sake of combating global warming, reducing the weight of automobiles is crucial. Development focusing on ultra-lightweight materials like CFRP, used in aerospace and sports materials, has become active, particularly in Europe. Toyota has also adopted a CFRP body for the Lexus LFA, and in recent years, BMW has incorporated it into electric vehicles. To further advance mass production, higher cycle times are required, and research on thermoplastic CFRP is being conducted with cooperation from industry, government, and academia. Here, we will touch upon the challenges, expectations, and prospects for CFRP based on insights from the development of vehicles like the Lexus LFA.
