**Lecture Summary** Electric vehicles (EVs) without engines or hybrid vehicles (HEVs) with relatively long engine stop times are at a disadvantage for air conditioning, especially during heating, due to the lack or minimal presence of engine coolant, which is a heat source. Using drive energy (batteries or fuel) as the energy source for the air conditioning system can lead to issues such as reduced driving range and worsened fuel efficiency, so it is desirable to use methods that minimize the use of drive energy sources. This presentation will explain the evolution of drive sources and introduce new air conditioning technologies as well as insulation and heat shielding technologies.
