An applicator for applying paint and coating materials to a uniform film thickness.
The doctor blade film applicator processes one side of a metal block to create a "gap," allowing for the application of paints and inks at a consistent film thickness. It is a Type B model of the JIS standard film applicator for painting. By using the applicator, a high-precision and highly reproducible coating can be achieved, resulting in a stable film thickness. The application widths are 50mm and 75mm. The gaps available are 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, and 200μm. The material is made of stainless steel.

Place and secure the test piece on a flat surface such as a glass plate. Spread the sample, such as paint or ink, over the test piece, pinch both ends of the applicator with your fingers, and quickly pull the applicator towards you at a speed of about 150mm in approximately one second while pressing it against the test piece. After finishing applying the sample, place the test piece with the coated surface facing up and level.
