basic information
**[Lecture Summary]** Packaging materials for microwave use face significant challenges regarding their material properties at high temperatures, but revisions to regulations aimed at international harmonization are progressing in various countries around the world. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has decided to advance the examination of the pending Product Liability (PL) system as a public research project for the fiscal year 2015, and concrete work towards revising the leaching test conditions is expected to proceed in parallel. However, the proposed amendments are limited to retort conditions (121°C). Meanwhile, Europe and the United States have already established regulations for microwave compatibility, and countries like China, India, and Indonesia have adopted EU regulations. For companies, it is crucial to fully understand the trends in these regulations and to ensure reliable responses through agreements among manufacturers. This lecture will introduce the latest information on regulations for microwave packaging materials and how companies can advance their risk management strategies.
