basic information
In the case of standard fixed focal length lenses (prime lenses), many of them have a working distance that is unnecessarily long or a real field of view that is unnecessarily large (with low magnification), making it impractical to use the lens alone. In such cases, a spacer (or barrel) of appropriate thickness is inserted between the lens and the camera to shorten the working distance and reduce the real field of view. However, with this method, if a spacer thicker than a certain limit is used, the original imaging performance of the camera lens may not be realized, leading to increased optical aberrations and a shallower depth of field (and the lens's light-gathering ability may also decrease). The limit on the thickness of the inserted spacer greatly depends on the design of the lens being used, the overall environment of the imaging optical system, and the acceptable range of image quality for the subject and user, and cannot be determined universally. ...
