The International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) is a project that operates scientific drilling vessels to investigate and study seafloor sediments, rocks, and the seafloor environment. Researchers from around the world collect samples suitable for their respective research purposes, conduct some initial analyses on board the vessel, and then return to land for detailed analysis.
