In factories, tasks such as picking parts and picking shipped products in warehouses are often performed by people and robots moving through large warehouses along different routes each time. If the routes are optimized, both skilled and novice workers can perform tasks efficiently. However, if the routes are left to the discretion of individual workers, variations in performance can occur. In some production sites, efforts are made to shorten routes by creatively arranging the storage locations of parts and products, or by storing parts needed for a specific product together, but it is not guaranteed that optimization is achieved in all cases. The optimization solution for routes introduced here is an application software that calculates the optimal route. Users input a list of items to be picked and their storage locations along with the positions of those storage locations. Based on the specified items and storage locations, the software optimizes the route and outputs the order in which to pick. By following the outputted order, workers, whether experienced or beginners, can perform tasks based on the optimized route.

  Example of Our Achievements (Before Optimization) This is an introduction to an example of optimizing the picking route for parts in a factory using machine learning. This diagram shows the route before optimization. Overall, there are areas that are functioning well, but there is still plenty of room for improvement.

  Example from our company (after optimization) This diagram shows the optimized route. At first glance, it may seem like it's going around different places, but it is actually going around the exact same locations. In this example, the upper route has been shortened by 25%. When picking tasks are performed by inexperienced workers, they may not be able to follow the shortest route in order, leading to decreased efficiency. This system allows even inexperienced individuals to navigate with a route comparable to that of skilled workers, preventing variations in efficiency among workers.

There is no cost for the hearing stage, but costs will be incurred for the subsequent stages.
