Self-regulating heating cables contain heating resistors made from a polymer blended with conductive carbon, and due to the composition of this special material, an electrical circuit is formed between the parallel conductors along the entire length of the cable. Additionally, Raychem's Power Limiting (VPL) heaters are parallel heating cables that have a coiled alloy resistance heating element wrapped around two parallel conductors. The resistance of this heating element increases with temperature, creating a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) effect.
