The Marine Pollution Prevention Treaty globally regulates the sulfur content in fuel oil, and it has been decided that this regulation will be further strengthened after January 2020. As a countermeasure to this regulation, the installation of SOx scrubbers, which can remove sulfur content, allows for the continued use of high-sulfur C heavy oil, which has been the mainstay of conventional marine fuel. There, a duplex stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance is employed.
