A solution-adaptive grid fully integrated into the fluid solver.
A solution-adaptive grid method has been developed for the FINE/Marine fluid solver. This method is fully integrated into the fluid solver and is designed to apply the RANS solver to various fields. Therefore, this method is constructed to be as general, flexible, and robust as possible, allowing for directionally adaptive solutions, unstructured grids, and fully parallelized computations. The evaluation of the criteria for solution adaptation is conducted in such a way that the criteria for solution adaptation can be easily exchanged.

basic information
In this paper, the adaptive mesh refinement method was applied to two significantly different test cases, demonstrating its versatility. In the first test conducted around the full model of the KVLCC2 tanker, a pressure-based refinement criterion was used to create locally refined meshes from a very coarse initial mesh. The results from the sections showed that high accuracy could be achieved with significantly fewer cells than a manually created high-resolution mesh. The second test case was conducted on a prototype of the HALSS high-speed trimaran. In this case, a parameter study was initially conducted without using adaptive meshes to determine the effects of the outer hull position and the central hull's skeg design. Mesh refinement around the water surface position was applied in several cases to better visualize the generated waves. These results confirmed the conclusions drawn from the parameter study.
