Self-regulating heater cables reduce the amount of current and heat output when the surrounding temperature rises, as the polymer in the heating element expands. Conversely, when the surrounding temperature drops, the polymer contracts, increasing the amount of current and heat output. Therefore, it is possible to maintain a certain range of temperature without the need for a separate temperature controller.
