Challenging fermentation experiments in zero gravity! Space beer brewing device [patent pending]
Can delicious beer be brewed in space? It is a scientific inquiry that piques intellectual curiosity and a challenge to bring smiles to people's faces.
It is said that in the near future, humanity will live in outer space. For long-term living, technologies that efficiently produce food and beverages with limited resources, as well as a delicious diet that allows for a fulfilling life even in a closed environment, will be key. How will the fermentation process change in the vastly different environment of space? What fermentation conditions will be optimal? This time, we have designed a device to conduct such experiments. It can be equipped with sensors to monitor alcohol concentration and beer flavor components, allowing for the evaluation of brewing quality during unmanned experiments on satellites. Additionally, it has a compact structure suitable for use on the space station. Takasago Electric Industry provided parts and technical advice for the construction of a lunar beer brewing device by American students in 2017. While there is gravity on the moon, brewing beer in the weightlessness of outer space requires a completely closed system, necessitating more advanced technology for gas management and internal agitation. We have addressed such challenges and have also filed for a patent. Cheers with beer brewed in space while looking at Earth! Isn't that exciting? This is a project filled with dreams and hopes, looking towards the future of humanity heading into space!

basic information
■ Features of the Device - Joint development with ALE Co., Ltd., which is engaged in the artificial meteor business. - A satellite-type beer brewing device that can automatically brew beer in outer space (under microgravity conditions). - Adapted for a CubeSat-sized ultra-small satellite. The main body can be stored in a 1U space. - Equipped with a degasser to release carbon dioxide generated during fermentation, enabling beer brewing in a closed system. - Employs a system to forcibly stir the wort, even in microgravity where thermal convection does not occur. - Utilizes a hop column to achieve an automatic hopping process, allowing for the bitterness and aroma of hops. - Can also be applied to fermentation processes for wine and other products. Takasago Electric Industry is a specialized manufacturer of fluid control devices, such as valves and pumps. Through participation in the SPACE FOODSPHERE program, we aim to explore various applications of fluid control technology in areas such as plant factories, artificial cultured meat, beer brewing, water treatment, and water quality analysis.
