The comparison plate is divided into four stages of different roughness, and the roughness of the inspection target surface is confirmed visually or with a magnifying glass through the hole in the center of the comparison plate to evaluate the blast roughness. It is used for the evaluation method of blast surfaces specified in ISO 8503-1 and JIS Z 0313. There are comparison plates for grit blasting (G) and shot blasting (S). The surface roughness for grit blasting is 25, 60, 100, and 150 μm, while for shot blasting it is 25, 40, 70, and 100 μm.

We will prepare a comparison plate without damage according to the shape of the abrasive material used in the blasting process. Under uniform lighting, we will closely attach the comparison plate to the blasted surface being inspected. We will examine whether the roughness of the inspected surface, visible through the hole in the center of the comparison plate, falls between any two of the four roughness levels categorized on the comparison plate. If the inspected surface is between the first and second levels or is equivalent to the second level of the rougher categories, it will be evaluated as "coarse." If it is between the second and third levels or is equivalent to the third level, it will be evaluated as "medium." If it is between the third and fourth levels or is equivalent to the fourth level, it will be evaluated as "fine."
