SABIC's low friction solutions
As of July 4, 2020, European Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/784 amended Annexes of Regulation (EU) 2019/1021, establishing limits on the amounts of PFOA, its salts, and PFOA-related substances that may be present in materials. Suppliers are required to demonstrate that materials containing PTFE are below the recommended PFOA threshold (<25 ppb). SABIC is working with suppliers to address this new requirement applicable to PTFE lubricating materials, while also offering a range of alloy-based lubricating products, LNP LUBRILOY compounds, which provide excellent wear and friction resistance comparable to PTFE, and are available as lubricant grades without restrictions like those found in silicone, graphite, and molybdenum disulfide. This solution may serve as an attractive alternative for designers looking to eliminate the use of PTFE. SABIC's extensive portfolio of low-friction solutions provides a wide range of material options for healthcare OEMs and companies with raw material decisions.
