An IoT development ecosystem centered around Osaka. We want to create an environment where we can say, "If you want to create IoT, come to Osaka!"
OSAS stands for Osaka Start-up Accelerator System, and it is a project designed to enable domestic venture companies and businesses considering new ventures to engage in lean startups in the IoT business. By leveraging a unique ecosystem and connecting companies with various strengths, we aim to invigorate the IoT business. Additionally, we will place the center of this initiative in the Kansai region. By gathering the skills of engineers with world-class technology centered around the Hanshin industrial zone, we will create a development environment that is on par with the best in the world. While OSAS focuses on a hardware development ecosystem, it also builds an environment to accelerate IoT businesses using the OSAS network through application development, sales support, pitch follow-up, procurement support, and business matching, among other services.

This table compares the market size and growth rate of the IoT business in Japan and China. Looking at 2019, it is evident that China's market size is approximately 40 times that of Japan, and its growth rate is also twice as high. This fact alone indicates that Japan has become a laggard in the IoT business. We recognize that this current situation in Japan is a serious issue for our company, which is engaged in the IoT business.
-
We have considered six reasons for the slow growth of the IoT business in Japan. 1. Cost-effectiveness 2. Lack of suppliers 3. Lack of players 4. Corporate culture 5. Initial costs 6. Differences in national policy As mentioned above, we believe that the uniqueness of the business domain, Japanese culture, national policies, and various other factors contribute to the lag of Japan's IoT market compared to the rest of the world. We wondered if there was something we could do about this issue. That was the very first moment we conceived OSAS.
-
As you know, the first barrier to entry in the IoT business is the cost barrier. The business model that aims to lower that barrier is a service that sells off portions of the hardware development process by utilizing the gaps between projects. Development companies can reduce costs by using their available time to develop devices. By lowering costs, we hope to reduce the barriers to entry in the IoT business and create an opportunity to revitalize the market.
