With Sekisui's unique nano-coating technology and sputtering technique, antiviral and antibacterial treatments can be applied to desired substrates such as fibers, non-woven fabrics, and films.
◆Differences from Conventional Technology Many conventional antiviral agents have the following issues: 1) They only have a persistence of a few days to a few weeks. 2) Many are ineffective against norovirus. 3) Many lack antibacterial and antifungal effects. 4) They use solvents and binders, resulting in a high environmental burden. We propose methods to address these challenges. ◆Issues That Can Be Resolved and Effects of Technology Application 1) Metal films can be deposited on substrates using sputtering technology, allowing for long-lasting effects (currently confirmed to last over six months). 2) They are highly effective against norovirus, making them ideal for food-related materials. 3) This single film is effective against viruses, fungi, and bacteria, allowing for simplification of constituent materials. 4) They are environmentally friendly as they do not require solvents or binders. 5) The texture of the substrate after film formation does not change the breathability, even when applied to precision materials like HEPA.

Applications/Examples of results
◆Examples of Product Applications Processing is possible for materials where antiviral functions are desired, such as clothing, curtains, and filters. Actual substrates are processed using sputtering, and antiviral performance is evaluated. A reduction rate of over 99% for Virus A (with envelope) has been confirmed. It has also been confirmed that there is no impact on pressure loss or collection efficiency as a filter.
Company information
The Sekisui Nano Coat Technology has developed a metal sputtering technology for fibers and commercialized it as the masa nano metal coating technology. Furthermore, this nano metal coating technology has been applied to various materials. Currently, this technology is also being applied to films. Additionally, our company originally started from the dyeing business for fabrics and is now involved in dyeing and raising processes for synthetic leather base materials used in automotive, railway, and aircraft-related seats, as well as shoes, bags, and interiors. We respond to various requests with processes such as dyeing, raising, and flame retardant treatments.
