Sub-zero treatment is expected to improve hardness and wear resistance, as well as address aging changes.
As a feature of our sub-zero treatment, we have two sub-zero tanks that can accommodate requests ranging from large items to small lots of various types. For certain steel grades, by requesting stabilization treatment in conjunction, we can achieve even higher measures against aging changes. ● Two sub-zero tanks: Kanagawa headquarters (600×600×600) and Tohoku office (450×450×450) ● Capable of "ultra sub-zero treatment (cryo treatment)" at temperatures below -140℃ ● Requests for sub-zero treatment alone are also possible.

basic information
Sub-zero treatment refers to a process in which materials are rapidly cooled to approximately -80°C after various heat treatments such as "vacuum hardening," "carburizing hardening," and "salt hardening." This cooling transforms the residual austenite that has formed into martensite. This treatment helps prevent issues related to aging and increases the hardness of the material. A sub-zero treatment conducted at temperatures lower than -100°C is referred to as "ultra sub-zero treatment" or "cryogenic treatment." Wear resistance is more effective at lower temperatures, and greater effects can be expected. Dry ice, carbon dioxide, and liquid nitrogen are used for the cooling treatment. The temperature varies depending on the coolant used: dry ice plus alcohol cools to about -80°C, carbon dioxide plus alcohol to about -130°C, and liquid nitrogen plus alcohol to -196°C. The treatment time is approximately 30 minutes after maintaining a uniform temperature, and a specified tempering process is required afterward.

Company information
Heat treatment deals with natural phenomena and imparts the desired functions to steel. Since we cannot change the natural phenomena themselves, the success of heat treatment relies entirely on what happens "before heat treatment." At Mutou Industries, we emphasize education based on "knowledge-based experience," demonstrating our capabilities in hypothesis formulation, proposal-making, and responsiveness. Headquarters and Factory: Yamato City, Kanagawa Prefecture Tokai Office: Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture Tohoku Office: Kitakami City, Iwate Prefecture Special Class Metal Heat Treatment Technicians: 2 First Class Metal Heat Treatment Technicians: 15 Second Class Metal Heat Treatment Technicians: 8 Third Class Metal Heat Treatment Technicians: 2 Second Class Metal Materials Testing Technicians: 2 (as of February 2024) We collaborate with processing partner companies to provide consistent support from machining to heat treatment. If you provide us with the drawings, we will ensure the quality after heat treatment in collaboration with the machining industry. We will enter into a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) as necessary.
