Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) is defined as exhibiting resistance to three classes of drugs: aminoglycosides, carbapenems, and fluoroquinolones, and it is classified as a Category 5 infectious disease, requiring notification. Notification is necessary when the infection is suspected and detected from normally sterile materials (such as cerebrospinal fluid or pleural fluid), or when it is isolated from sputum, pus, etc., and determined to be the causative bacterium of an infection, or in cases where a death has been recognized. Infections caused by this bacterium can be difficult to treat. Strict measures for preventing hospital-acquired infections must also be implemented.
