Supporting the effective use of domestic timber in the post-COVID era! A penetrating high-performance wood coating that can add antiviral effects to wood just by applying it.
Sion Co., Ltd. (Location: Yahaba Town, Iwate Prefecture, Representative Director: Koichiro Ishikawa) has recently launched a domestically produced high-performance wood coating, "Kimamori Senka VIRUS Protect." The Kimamori Senka line includes two types: "Fire Protect," which promotes flame resistance simply by applying it, and "Weather Protect," which emphasizes high weather resistance against rain and UV rays. The newly added "Virus Protect" claims to provide antiviral (and antibacterial) effects for wood surfaces in our surroundings, enhancing the functionality of wood coatings and addressing the problems and challenges that arise when using wood materials. Our company manufactures and sells wood-specific coatings that are friendly to both people and the environment, utilizing natural materials such as plant oils and natural pigments. Our flagship products are "Domestic Natural Coating U-OIL," launched in 2012, and "Domestic High-Performance Wood Coating Kimamori Senka," launched in 2017. We have been committed to SDGs initiatives since our founding by eliminating product inventory waste through made-to-order production. ▶ "Kimamori Senka VIRUS Protect website: http://kimamoli.jp/virus/"

basic information
Our "Kimamori Senka Virus Protect" is the first penetrating wood finish that can add antiviral (+ antibacterial) effects to wood simply by applying it, making it an "antiviral penetrating wood finish." Furthermore, it can be finished with a "one-component + one coat" application, allowing for easy finishing. The color is only clear, but it is also possible to apply it over areas that have been painted with penetrating finishes (both clear and colored), eliminating the need to replace the wood and allowing you to make use of the existing wood. Additionally, wooden tables in stores, public spaces, and offices are regularly disinfected with alcohol or bleach, but each disinfection process accumulates damage to the wood. As long as the wood protection (water repellency) of this product is effective, the antiviral (+ antibacterial) effects will not diminish, enabling "normal cleaning while reducing damage to the wood."

Applications/Examples of results
【Uses and Prospects】 The "Wood Guardian Specialty Virus Protect" provides antiviral (+ antibacterial) effects simply by applying it to wood. Additionally, it can be applied over areas that have previously been painted with penetrating-type coatings, allowing for most places that were coated with penetrating-type paint to be converted to antiviral (+ antibacterial) surfaces. Furthermore, since most of the ingredients are natural materials, it boasts high safety. In public facilities, schools, nurseries, and welfare facilities, where wooden flooring and tables are common, safety and security are particularly important. Moreover, these facilities tend to be crowded, and due to the high number of inquiries received before the release, there are great expectations for its use. We aim to support people's safe and secure living by adding antiviral (+ antibacterial) effects to existing wood without the need for new installations.
Company information
In 2003, the Building Standards Act was revised, and regulations regarding sick house syndrome were strengthened. However, rather than eliminating sick house syndrome, the number of cases is still on the rise. This is because, no matter how much the content of harmful chemicals in existing chemical-based paints and adhesives is reduced, their harmful effects on the human body remain. Our company manufactures and sells products made from 100% natural materials for paints and adhesives used in wooden parts of houses. We use "nikawa" (animal glue), which has been utilized as an adhesive since ancient times, as the main raw material, and we process it with Aomori hinoki oil and other substances to create our products. Currently, there is a growing use of our products among builders who prefer additive-free materials, construction companies that utilize locally sourced domestic timber, and public projects such as schools and daycare centers.
