Salmonella is a representative foodborne pathogen alongside Campylobacter and Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella food poisoning consistently ranks among the top in both the number of incidents and patients each year. Testing for Salmonella involves a two-step enrichment culture process: an initial pre-enrichment culture to recover damaged bacteria, followed by a selective enrichment culture that specifically promotes the growth of Salmonella, after which isolation is performed using agar media. If colonies suspected to be Salmonella appear, further confirmation tests are conducted, meaning that standard testing takes about four days to reach a conclusion.
