In the mold maker column, we will continuously share various information about molds! (We also publish the mold maker column on our company Instagram.)
In the previous columns, we introduced single-stroke and progressive molds. This time, we will introduce the third type, transfer molds! Transfer molds are a type of mold where multiple single-stroke molds are arranged in a row. Like progressive molds, they use coil material (for more on coil material, refer to Column 2). The molds are moved between each single-stroke mold using a fixture called a finger, allowing the process to advance to the next stage. This processing method is automated, making it suitable for mass production. The advantages include the ability to mass-produce due to automation and stable quality. Additionally, it allows for an increased number of processes compared to progressive molds, enabling more complex machining. The disadvantages include the difficulty in designing the transport mechanism to move between single-stroke molds and the fact that having multiple single-stroke molds in line results in a relatively higher cost. Transfer molds are suitable for complex products that require processes like drawing. In the next column, we will introduce the "hull phenomenon"!
