The hexagonal cross-section results in 35% less transmission loss compared to comparable square cross-section light pipes. Light pipes made of synthetic quartz are suitable for applications using UV LED light sources. Tapered light pipes are available with magnification options starting from 2X and 3X. Edmund Optics also provides mounts for tapered light pipes and hexagonal cross-section light pipes. The light pipe mounts are designed to facilitate system integration and provide ease of handling. They consist of two resin clamps and one barrel part that do not damage the same element during fixation, along with four set screws.
