Differential gears (side, pinion) are in high demand for high strength to accommodate the increasing torque due to miniaturization and lightweight design, as well as improvements in engine output. There is a growing request for production using cold closed forging methods. However, forging in a nearly sealed state increases the load on the mold, leading to a shorter mold lifespan, which presents challenges. To address this issue, our company utilized the CAE analysis software "DEFORM" to reproduce "failure," one of the factors contributing to the shortened mold lifespan, and conducted countermeasure studies.
