This technology is a nitriding treatment method that maintains the low distortion characteristic of nitriding while allowing for arbitrary changes in the compound layer composition to enable enhancements according to specific purposes. The composition of ε(Fe2-3N), which is typical for gas soft nitriding, achieves hardness with its hexagonal crystal lattice but has the property of being brittle due to its high porosity.
