Form Energy (MA) has conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for its first battery manufacturing plant, Factory 1. The manufactured product, the iron-air battery, is a new class of battery with a very high cost-effectiveness. It can store energy for several days at one-tenth the cost of lithium-ion batteries. The reasons for choosing this location include that Weirton has historically suitable terrain and infrastructure for the steel industry, as well as expertise in producing excellent products from iron. Additionally, it is close to the existing pilot plant (PA). The West Virginia Government Office in Japan is an overseas office of the International Division of the West Virginia Department of Economic Development. West Virginia is located in the eastern United States, surrounded by five states, including major cities like Washington D.C. and Pittsburgh, and is known for its strong manufacturing sector.
