This is an introduction to a case study of the frame structure manufactured by Mitsuya Co., Ltd.
This case involves a frame used for inspection and measurement equipment. It is a fabricated product made from 19 pieces of 40×40×2.3t square pipes in four types, three pieces of angles in two types, and nine plates of thick steel measuring 12t, 16t, 22t, and 25t, as well as nine plates of thin steel measuring 2.3t and 3.2t. Although it appears to be a simple fabricated frame in terms of size and shape, the challenge of this product was that three tapped holes were machined on the inner measuring surface of the thick plate attached to the top surface of the frame.

basic information
As for the frame of the stand, after welding all the materials, if the number of holes and taps is small, we will use gauges for processing at Mitsuya Co., Ltd. However, for this product, since there were dimensional instructions for hole and tap processing based on the surface of the frame after machining, we will have a cooperating company perform the necessary hole and tap hole processing using a five-axis machining center. The tap on the inner side of the thick plate required tap hole processing after machining the thick plate down by 2mm, but while the five-axis machining center can process the outer side, it cannot process the inner tap holes. Therefore, the 12t tap located on the lower inside of the frame is processed during the assembly of the frame, but the tap holes on the inner side of the thick plate cannot be processed by Mitsuya Co., Ltd. because the dimensions are based on the surface after machining the thick plate. After consulting with the welding workers and machining contractors, we concluded that since it is a thick plate, it is unlikely that distortion would occur due to welding. Thus, we decided to first machine the thick plate to the specified thickness and then process the taps on the inner side before welding it to the square pipe frame. After the frame assembly is completed through welding, we will request the machining contractor to process the other holes and tap holes again, and at that time, we will confirm that there are no distortions or warps affecting the flatness.
