Automobiles use thousands of parts. The functions of ceramic thermal spraying, such as wear resistance, thermal insulation, and electrical insulation, have been considered and adopted, improving the fuel efficiency and durability of vehicles. Here, we introduce a case where ceramic thermal spraying solved issues related to automotive parts. ■Challenge We want to prevent damage to the piston head from heat. ■Proposal We propose applying heat-resistant and insulating ceramic thermal spraying to the piston head. ■Effect This prevents damage to the piston head and significantly contributes to improving engine efficiency, which was greatly appreciated.
