Thorough explanation of practical points necessary for commercialization, from technology and equipment to financial planning.
The global shrimp market is thriving, and shrimp that were primarily produced in Southeast Asia and South Asia were mainly distributed vertically within Asia to countries like Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong. However, while Japan has experienced a long-term recession since the late 1990s, the import volume of frozen shrimp in the United States, where economic prosperity and seafood consumption have become widespread, surpassed Japan's in 1997, increasing from 190,000 tons in 1988 to 700,000 tons today. The initiative has completely fallen behind the large consumer markets of the United States and China. In recent years, there has been a surge in domestic ventures for farming Pacific white shrimp to improve the current situation where the domestic self-sufficiency rate of this important shrimp species in the domestic food industry is less than 10% of consumption. However, most of these ventures are small-scale experimental plants, with only about three production plants at the 100-ton scale nationwide. As a result, there has been no fundamental learning in Pacific white shrimp farming, and numerous cases of failure can be observed. 【Seminar Details】 ■ Date and Time: July 25 (Friday) 09:30 - 11:30 (Doors open at 9:00) ■ Venue: JPI Conference Square ■ Speaker: Director of the Land-based Aquaculture Study Group IMT Engineering Co., Ltd. basic information
【Lecture Overview】 The shrimp farming industry in Japan, particularly for Pacific white shrimp, primarily adopts a closed recirculating system due to regulations on non-native species. This differs from the open pond systems used in Southeast Asia, and the cultivation methods are also distinct. In this system, water is circulated and filtered indoors for reuse, allowing for artificial control of the rearing environment, which significantly reduces the risk of disease outbreaks. The downside is that the initial and running costs for land-based aquaculture facilities are high, necessitating a high-density, high-growth rearing system and operational system suitable for the business. This seminar will detail 25 years of on-site know-how regarding shrimp closed recirculating aquaculture, developed through years of research and development. 【Lecture Topics】 ■ Background and objectives of indoor shrimp production system development ■ Characteristics of shrimp species ■ Characteristics of marine shrimp and Pacific white shrimp ■ New developments in Pacific white shrimp production technology ■ Actual aquaculture management case studies ■ Nutrition and feeding: Unique feed composition developed at ISPS ■ Various recorded data ■ Health management and diseases ■ Large-scale land-based shrimp farms overseas ■ Future of land-based aquaculture ■ Related Q&A ■ Business card and information exchange session
