However, upon request from Fuefuki City, we installed an Astia water-flush toilet (fixed soil water-flush toilet), which is currently in operation. Over 20,000 tourists visit annually, with more than 300 people using the toilet on busy days. ◆ Public Toilet at Shimen Mountain, Hayakawa Town, Yamanashi Prefecture At the foothills of Shimen Mountain (the head temple of the Nichiren sect) in Hayakawa Town, we received a request from Hayakawa Town to install an Astia fixed soil toilet. This mountain is also designated as one of Japan's 100 famous mountains, attracting tens of thousands of climbers each year. Previously, there was a non-flush, pit toilet system that required helicopter transport for waste removal (costing about 6 million yen annually). Concerns regarding odor, hygiene, and running costs were raised. With the installation of a clean water-flush toilet, tourist numbers have increased, and the elimination of waste removal has led to cost reductions. The toilet is currently in operation.
