This device measures the contrast characteristics of color filter inks used in color LCD displays. It places a sample (a glass plate coated with filter ink) between two polarizing plates, and one of the polarizing plates is rotated using a precision motor-driven turntable. By measuring the maximum and minimum values of the transmitted light intensity from a light source controlled at a constant brightness, it determines the extinction ratio in the state of passing through the sample. The measurement is performed automatically under a dark box that blocks external light, controlled by a microcontroller.
