Increased paint adhesion! Rust suppression!

The removal of foreign substances and the uneven surface effect through surface treatment improve the adhesion of the paint. Furthermore, the dust-proof effect of blasting suppresses red rust. ◎ Blast (Shot blast / Type 1 Keren, English: blast) Compressed air is injected at high pressure along with particles called abrasives, which collide with the product to remove dirt, grime, and paint from the surface. ◎ Grit blast (English: Grit blast) One of the surface treatment (Keren) methods. Keren is classified from Type 1 to Type 4, and blasting serves as the substrate treatment for the highest grade, Type 1 Keren. ◎ Sand blast (English: Sand blast) One of the surface treatment (Keren) methods. Keren is classified from Type 1 to Type 4, and blasting serves as the substrate treatment for the highest grade, Type 1 Keren. Cover blast preparation

Blast treatment is used to prepare the substrate by removing gold plating and black skin.

Gold varnish is a temporary rust preventive, but it needs to be removed during painting. It is removed together with the black scale using blasting. We also recorded a video during the process, but caution is required. ◎ Grit blast One of the surface treatment methods (cleaning). There are four types of cleaning, from Type 1 to Type 4, and blasting is the substrate treatment of Type 1 cleaning, which is the highest grade. ◎ Blast By spraying compressed air at high pressure together with particles called abrasives and colliding them with the product, it removes dirt, grime, and paint from the surface. ◎ Gold varnish A type of rust preventive treatment applied to the surface to prevent metal corrosion. However, due to its limited long-term rust prevention effect, it is used as a temporary rust preventive oil. Harada Ironworks Hiroshima Official Link

Paint stripping and concrete removal

We will thoroughly clean the dirty bucket with a blast of concrete.

At the request of a rental company, we thoroughly cleaned a bucket stained with concrete using blasting. The bucket was dirty due to concrete and an old paint film, and its appearance had deteriorated. As per the customer's request, we used grit blasting to completely strip the surface of the bucket. This removed all the concrete and old paint, restoring the bucket to a like-new condition. After that, we repainted it to enhance durability and aesthetics. We received positive feedback from the customer, who was pleased that the bucket could be put back to use. Our company utilizes grit blasting for the removal of various materials and coatings, providing high-quality surface treatment. Harada Ironworks Hiroshima Official Link

Wrench Glass Bead Blast

By glass bead blasting an old, rusty wrench, it was possible to make it look clean like in the photo in about five minutes.

Glass bead blasting, as the name suggests, uses glass spheres as an abrasive material, allowing for a clean surface while minimizing wear on the product itself. It is used not only on metal but also for decorative purposes on wood and glass products. ◎ Spanner (Wrench) Both spanner and wrench refer to tools used to rotate and tighten bolts and nuts. Spanner is British English, while wrench is American English, and it seems to have been introduced to Japan in that way. In Japan, it is common to refer to tools with an open end and a fixed width as spanners, while other types are often called wrenches. ◎ Glass beads (Blast/Type 1 Keren) This is one method of surface treatment (Keren). Keren is classified into four types, and blasting is the substrate treatment of the highest grade, Type 1 Keren. It is called glass bead blasting because it uses glass beads as the abrasive material. What is Blast? - Abrasive Material Edition

Grinding processing is a method of machining that involves striking the surface of the target product with countless abrasive materials to remove material from the surface.

There are various methods for processing metals. For example, there are many processing methods such as welding, cutting, forging, bending, and grinding. This refers to the materials used during the grinding process. Grinding processing is a method that involves striking countless grinding materials against the target product to shave off the surface. By selecting the appropriate projection method and grinding material, blasting can perform grinding processing on many types of materials. The materials for grinding can include metal, ceramics, glass, resin, dry ice, and they come in various shapes such as spherical, polygonal, and powdery. Below, we introduce three types of grinding materials used by our company. Harada Iron Works Co., Ltd. The difference between grit and sandblasting.

We have summarized the differences between our large blast equipment, "Grit Blast" and "Sand Blast," concisely.

Here is a concise summary of grit blasting and sandblasting with the following characteristics: **Characteristics of Grit Blasting:** The abrasive material is metallic and has very high grinding power, easily removing adhered rust and dirt. It can also remove rubber, plating, and paint from the surface of products. Compared to other abrasives, it causes less wear when striking the target, resulting in less dust and waste. However, since the raw material is metallic, there is a possibility of "transferred rust" occurring when applied to materials that are less prone to rust, such as stainless steel. **Characteristics of Sandblasting:** In the past, "silica sand" was used as an abrasive, but now mainly "ferro-nickel slag," a non-metallic abrasive, is used. Because a non-metallic abrasive is used, it can be applied to materials that are less prone to rust, such as stainless steel. It has less grinding power compared to grit blasting, allowing for careful application on soft metals and products with extensive masking. If you have a specific abrasive in mind or have inquiries about other application uses, please feel free to contact us. Harada Iron Works Hiroshima Official Link

Causes of coating delamination

I will explain the reasons why the coating peels off.

We compared samples with and without a primer. For surface preparation, we degreased with cleaning thinner and roughened the surface with sandpaper. The painting specifications used epoxy-modified resin paint for the primer and acrylic-modified phthalic resin paint for the topcoat. After allowing sufficient drying time, tests were conducted. When removing the masking tape, the sample without primer had the paint peel off with it. The primer has a high adhesion to the substrate, and when used together with the topcoat, it maximizes the performance of the paint. Skipping the primer may result in a visually appealing finish, but the performance of the paint is compromised. By performing blast processing, a more robust paint film can be formed. Omitting the primer reduces the adhesion of the paint, making it more prone to peeling and crumbling. The combination of primer and topcoat allows the paint to adhere to the surface, enhancing the strength and durability of the paint film. The primer is an essential step to maximize the performance of the paint and ensure quality. While it is possible to shorten the process by omitting it, this will impact the durability and quality of the paint job.

Shot blast

Mainly uses metal projectiles! It has effects such as forming fine uneven surfaces to reduce friction.

"Shot blasting" primarily uses metallic abrasives, in contrast to air blasting, which uses mineral-based abrasives, and the particle size is larger compared to air blasting. It exhibits various effects such as imparting residual compressive stress to improve the fatigue strength of springs and gears, enhancing wear resistance through the formation of a surface hardening layer, and reducing friction by creating fine uneven surfaces. The purpose is common to areas such as deburring and coating removal, similar to air blasting (sandblasting). However, because shot blasting uses larger metallic abrasives, the impact force applied to the workpiece is significantly greater, making it mainstream for modifying the surfaces of metal workpieces.
