Ballwave is a startup company originating from Tohoku University that conducts research and development of sensors, as well as the manufacturing and sales of devices using these sensors. Ballwave's ball SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) sensors utilize the property of waves traveling along the surface of a sphere while maintaining the same width over long distances, achieving compact size, high sensitivity, and fast response. Products utilizing ball SAW sensors include ultra-trace moisture meters and ultra-compact gas chromatographs. **Challenges and Solutions** Ballwave's ultra-compact gas chromatograph was developed through collaborative research with JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency). When considering applications for space exploration, challenges such as compact size, lightweight, and low power consumption arose, leading to interest in our latch-type compact corrosion-resistant solenoid valve NLV series. Additionally, through our expertise in customization, we designed a miniature manifold to match the desired flow pattern. After repeated prototyping, we successfully developed a gas chromatograph for space exploration applications. A portable, palm-sized (A5 size) gas chromatograph for terrestrial applications has also been developed, and prototype offerings have now begun.

Zinc oxide is a powdered mineral that adheres to the outermost layer of the skin, acting as a broad-spectrum blocking agent that scatters, reflects, and absorbs ultraviolet radiation, providing protection from both UVA and UVB radiation, making it unique among sunscreen ingredients. The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) has developed monographs for FDA-approved drugs, including OTC medications, and is working to obtain the necessary information to maintain high-quality pharmaceuticals. It has also initiated a global effort to update many existing monographs across all official methods. As part of this USP initiative, the addition of an ion chromatography (IC) method for zinc measurement in General Chapter <591> is proposed. [HPLC Case Study] Analysis of Dairy Beverages by Automatic Derivatization of Amino Acids

High-precision and convenient automatic quantitative analysis of amino acids using the custom injection program function of an autosampler.

Many amino acids do not absorb ultraviolet (UV) light, making it difficult to improve sensitivity and selectivity with conventional analytical methods, which are also complicated and lack stability. This technical document introduces a case where a custom injection program feature in the auto-sampler of the Thermo Scientific Vanquish Core HPLC system was utilized to derivatize 20 types of amino acids simultaneously using a pre-column derivatization method for simultaneous analysis. This system enables highly accurate quantitative analysis as it is not affected by the degradation after the derivatization reaction. [Case Study] Analysis of Additives in Nickel Sulfate Plating Solution by HPLC

HPLC method achieving high-sensitivity quantitative analysis without complex preprocessing: Introducing quantitative know-how for quality control.

In the quality control of plating solutions, the quantification of additives is an important factor. In particular, the quantification of sulfur-containing compounds that contribute to film quality adjustment and prevention of liquid decomposition is essential. This document provides accurate and highly reproducible analytical results using a method that does not require complex pretreatment. For the HPLC measurement conditions, an ion-pair reagent was added to the mobile phase, and an injection method was adopted to reduce the influence of sample impurities. As a result, sharp peaks can be obtained without being affected by metals and inorganic ions. Additionally, by comparing the chromatograms of the standard solution and the plating solution sample, it can be confirmed that the concentration of additives is maintained consistently.
