[Case Study] Prevention of Work Takeaway, Stable Storage in Chip Trays

Introduction of case studies that are economical and easily replaceable on-site due to their interchangeable nature.

We received a request from a semiconductor manufacturing company in Hiroshima Prefecture and would like to introduce a case where we implemented measures to prevent workpiece carry-back and ensure stable storage in chip trays. We recommend using flat collets made of carbide and heat-resistant resin for those who have issues with scratches on the chip surface and chipping. Being interchangeable, it is economical and can be easily replaced on the worksite, allowing for continuous use in top-class condition. The tip shapes are round, square, and rectangular, with a wide range of sizes available as standard specifications. 【Case Study】 ■Challenge There was no experience in transferring small workpieces with openings below 1mm, making it a difficult situation, and we had to decline inquiries from users. There were expectations for preventing workpiece carry-back and stable storage in chip trays. ■Result Approximately 100,000 chip sizes of 0.75mm opening and t=0.2mm were handled without any carry-back. This was an area where existing collets could not be used at all. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Zero scratches on semiconductor products with resin collet [conical type].

Recommended for those who get scratches on chips with metal collets and feel that rubber collets lack strength.

The classical design The conical collet is a product widely known for its classical design. This collet features a pyramid-shaped recess that supports the chip on the sloped part, allowing for suction and pickup. This enables precise positioning and stable holding of semiconductor chips. Main features Limited contact surface: It only makes contact with the four edges of the chip's upper surface, preventing scratches and dirt on the chip's upper surface. Prevention of corner chipping: The corners are designed with chamfers to prevent chipping. Shifting from metal to resin to reduce chipping of semiconductor chips Development of resin conical collets Orte Corporation has successfully manufactured conical collets using resin materials such as Bespell SP1 and PEEK. These resin collets significantly reduce chipping and cracking of chips compared to traditional carbide collets.

powRgrip seal collet PG-SC

Collets ideal for processing ceramics, carbide, graphite, and glass.

For difficult-to-process materials such as ceramics, carbide, graphite, and glass, the requirements for tools and machine tools are also heightened. The tool holder, which serves as the connection point between the machine and the tool, is a fundamental component for efficient processing. By using the powRgrip, which combines minimal runout, stability, and excellent vibration damping, improvements in processing accuracy and tool life can be achieved. When processing workpieces like those mentioned above, there is a problem where chips and dust can enter small gaps and become lodged. The newly developed PG-SC collet prevents the accumulation of chips and dust due to its lack of a notch at the top, ensuring a long product life and stable performance.

Are you troubled by defects caused by cracks and microcracks?

[Case Study] We present a case where replacing traditional hard carbide collets with rubber collets resulted in zero occurrences of cracks and microcracks.

Orte Corporation is a company that handles consumable parts for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. We would like to introduce a case study on improving defects in the sensor chip transfer process that we proposed. ■Customer's Concerns - Defects due to cracks and micro-cracks are occurring at a rate of 50%. - Due to the fragility of the material, a pickup collet with minimal damage is needed. - The transfer device's transport speed was set to the slowest speed, but there was no improvement. ↓ ■Proposal "Replace the hard alloy collet with a rubber collet." As a result, the occurrence of cracks and micro-cracks was eliminated, and defects became "zero." *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Interchangeable rubber collet (interchangeable rubber tip) used in semiconductor manufacturing.

Leave it to us for collets used in semiconductor manufacturing lines! We can offer a wide variety of extremely small sizes that accommodate the shrinking collets.

In semiconductor manufacturing lines, collets are used. It is recommended to replace the collet with a metal or resin pickup nozzle if there is a risk of scratching the chip surface during die attachment. We offer a wide variety of ultra-small sizes that accommodate shrinking collets. They can be used in conjunction with compatible holders, allowing for easy on-site replacement at a low cost, making them economical. In semiconductor manufacturing lines, it is said that the failure rate of chip movement with standard collets is about 60%. Our products focus on reducing the generation of static electricity when in contact with semiconductors and on the hardness of the materials. Customers who have adopted our products have significantly reduced their failure rate to 1.7%. As a result, we have received many requests for replacements from other materials in recent years. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*

[Case Study] How to reduce damage to pickups?

Improvement of damage defects such as microcracks! Leave it to us with our pickup tools.

We would like to introduce a case of defect improvement in the transfer process of sensor chips that we proposed. In the process of transferring indium phosphide and gallium arsenide sensor chips to the inspection stage, defects due to cracks and micro-cracks were occurring. Due to the fragility of the material, the challenge was to create a pickup collet that would minimize damage. When we replaced the conventional very hard carbide collet with a rubber collet, the occurrence of cracks and micro-cracks was eliminated, resulting in zero defects. [Case Study] ■ Issues - Defects due to cracks and micro-cracks were occurring at a rate of 50%. - A damage-minimizing pickup collet was needed due to the fragility of the material. - The transport speed of the transfer device was set to the slowest speed, but no improvement was observed. ■ Proposal - Replaced the carbide collet with a rubber collet. - The occurrence of cracks and micro-cracks was eliminated, resulting in zero defects. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
