Green infrastructure (such as wetlands, rice paddies, and forest belts) also has functions that reduce disaster risk, so I am interested in how to mix natural elements with artificial structures (such as levees and retention basins) to create a good state for both disaster reduction and ecosystems. Additionally, focusing on the Arakawa River basin, I am conducting research to clarify the changes in flood risk associated with flood control projects in Saitama Prefecture and to accurately estimate flood hazard areas and evacuation timing. I am also researching countermeasures to delay levee breaches caused by infiltration and overtopping within levees and foundational ground, as well as considering the impact of river flow on levee erosion and the interaction between river vegetation and water flow on the long-term maintenance of river channels, all while exploring how to create diverse biological habitats.
