Blast furnace gas (BFG) is generated in all steelworks, and coke oven gas (COG) is also frequently produced as a byproduct of coke production. BFG and COG are often mixed and used as fuel gas for boilers and power plants, which saves energy and improves the efficiency of the steelmaking process. In many cases, the mixed gas of BFG/COG is enhanced by adding natural gas and other substances to improve combustion efficiency. This mixing requires control based on the Wobbe index.
