[Analysis Case] Analysis of Polyester by Reaction Thermal Decomposition GC/MS Method

Detailed structural analysis of polyester is possible.

When conducting structural analysis of condensation-type polymers such as polyester, the conventional thermal decomposition GC/MS method may result in complex decomposition products that do not allow for structural estimation. In such cases, the reactive thermal decomposition GC/MS method, which involves the coexistence of derivatization reagents during thermal decomposition, is effective. This example introduces the thermal decomposition of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in the presence of tetramethylammonium hydroxide. While numerous peaks were observed with the conventional thermal decomposition method, the reactive thermal decomposition method detected simpler decomposition products that reflected the monomer structure.

We would like to introduce our waste plastic oil conversion device, the 'MS-30/50'. This product takes waste plastic that has been crushed to less than 10mm and feeds it into a melting device, where it is melted by applying heat. The melted material is then supplied to a pyrolysis chamber. In the chamber, it is decomposed at high temperatures and vaporized, and the vaporized gas is cooled and liquefied, regenerating it into oil equivalent to A heavy oil. At Taniguchiya, which is celebrating its 96th anniversary (2021), we fry our specially made cotton tofu for deep-frying entirely by hand, adjusting as we go. In our old factory, there were times when we had to work in conditions where summer temperatures exceeded 50°C.
