Until today, the treatment of wastewater mixed with fats and oils from restaurants and ramen shops has been handled by grease traps, which are devices that collect grease. However, the efficiency of grease collection has not been adequate for current conditions, and management has been difficult, resulting in a significant amount of oil flowing into sewers, purification facilities, and rivers. Recently, fats and oils clogged in sewer pipes have turned into white solid objects (oil balls) that have washed up on the beaches of Tokyo Bay, causing serious environmental issues. The solution developed for this problem is the world's first sink-type grease collector, "Grease ECO." It separates and collects only the oil using specific gravity separation at the kitchen sink, which is the very beginning of the wastewater stream. The collected oil is of high purity and can be reused as industrial raw materials. What was previously considered waste is now revitalized as a recyclable resource, complying with the Food Recycling Law. No bioagents or chemicals are required, and the only running cost is the electricity needed to operate the device. The amount of fats and oils flowing into the grease trap is reduced to less than one-hundredth, eliminating the need for frequent cleaning and waste collection costs, thus enabling significant cost reductions in wastewater treatment.
