The problems caused by hard turning have been resolved.

We were performing boring processing with CBN using carbide holders. We used a variety of standard and special types, but we struggled with the precision and quality (shine) of the machined surfaces. After specially manufacturing and testing a tungsten head carbide boring holder, we resolved issues such as machining surface precision, color tone, and minor vibrations (waviness) that we faced during hard turning. Traditionally, we used Company K's carbide boring holders for mass production of motorcycle parts with a protrusion length L/D = 5. Due to the deep machining depth, the machining accuracy was somewhat unstable, but by using tungsten heads, we eliminated sudden occurrences of nonconforming products and achieved stable machining. Currently, all carbide boring holders in use, including special custom products, have been changed to tungsten heads, and we are achieving stable machining. I am surprised that the product quality remains stable without deterioration!

Traditionally, we have been using products from various throwaway manufacturers, but we have been troubled by dimensional variations due to wear in the chip clamp area and deterioration of the finished surface (stability). This time, we tested a tungsten head, and to our surprise, there was no wear in the chip clamp area due to chips, and above all, the product quality remained stable without deterioration. Even after increasing the protrusion and improving chip discharge, the quality has been maintained without change.
