In the manufacturing process of semiconductor devices, residual stress generated during the thin grinding of wafers can lead to product failures, defects, and degradation. In this instance, we will perform mechanical polishing on Si wafers to reduce the surface crystallinity and evaluate the changes in crystallinity before and after polishing using X-ray rocking curve measurements. We would like to introduce our analysis related to biofilms, specifically the "Evaluation Method for Bacterial Sterilization and Growth Inhibition in Biofilms." The sterilization effect is evaluated by measuring the metabolic activity of the bacteria. WST (water-soluble tetrazolium salt) is one of the reagents used to determine bacterial metabolic activity, producing WST formazan in accordance with the metabolic activity of the bacteria. By measuring the absorbance, we can determine the amount of surviving bacteria. 【Analysis Method】 1. Immerse the substrate or pin in the bacterial culture solution and incubate at a constant temperature for 24 to 48 hours to allow biofilm formation on the substrate or pin. 2. After immersing the substrate or pin in the sterilizing agent solution for a specified time, wash it with water. 3. Immerse the substrate or pin in the WST reagent for 10 to 60 minutes. 4. Photochemical smog and PM2.5 are very close atmospheric environmental issues. These gas/particulate pollutants can be directly emitted, but many are generated through photochemical reactions in the atmosphere. For example, knowing which components exist at what particle sizes in particulate pollutants is crucial information for controlling the occurrence of pollution. On the other hand, these pollutants can also be completely decomposed and neutralized using further photochemical reactions. Therefore, we are engaged in research and development in two main areas. One area is the investigation of the atmospheric behavior of particulate pollutants both indoors and outdoors, which includes the development of particle size classification collection methods, evaluation of chemical components in particles, and reaction model experiments using indoor chambers. The other area involves research on the integration of elemental technologies that can effectively generate reactive species such as vacuum ultraviolet light, photocatalysts, and ultrasound, as well as the effective utilization of reaction fields, aiming to develop air purification methods capable of high-efficiency decomposition of gas/particulate pollutants.
