[Labor Accident Case] Death due to oxygen deficiency during hatch opening work in the hold.
A case of oxygen deficiency occurring during the opening operations of hatches and other areas after the completion of wood fumigation in the ship's hold.
On the day before, gas concentration measurements were conducted in the cargo hold where fumigation had taken place, under the supervision of a quarantine officer. As a result, the effectiveness of the fumigation was confirmed, and the opening work for the hatches of each cargo hold began. Since the victim had not returned, a search was conducted, and it was discovered that there was a hatch on the deck that was left open. Looking down from there, the victim was found lying on their back with a gas mask on. Although gas measurements were taken, oxygen concentration measurements were not conducted, leading to a state of asphyxiation, resulting in death due to oxygen deficiency. [Recommendation] ■ For safety confirmation, it is recommended to use a portable gas monitor capable of detecting multiple gases with one device. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
